Brunch at Creation Wines, Hermanus

If you haven’t noticed, we absolutely love good food with complex elements and beautiful presentation. What we love more is when that food is paired with the most delicious wines. For our 5 year anniversary we headed to Creation for the famous 10am Brunch Pairing – 8 breakfast-themed  tapas perfectly paired with premium wines from the Creation Range. I’m not going to lie, the thought of wine at 10 in the morning made me a little nervous (but excited, obviously) but by the time we walked in, I was amped and I was ready. Although we had had their wines before, this was our very first visit to Creation Wine Farm (can you believe it?!). We booked the Brunch Pairing because we had heard that it’s an utter party for the palate and a theatrical transformation from breakfast to lunch. I love breakfast. My husband loves lunch. We both win.

Creation is situated in the Walker Bay Wine Region, high up on the picturesque Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge. The tasting room is surrounded by rolling hills of vineyards with a beautiful dam right in front of it. My first impression, parking our car was how beautiful and green it was. Coming from the drought that is Cape Town, greenery is something few and far between. The scenery and the setting is absolutely stunning and it made me feel all nostalgic. We were greeted with friendly smiles from the parking area to when we walked in the door of the tasting room. At that stage (it was just before 10am), we were the only people there and I thought it was wise to start with a good old cup of coffee. They serve Nespresso coffee which is always a treat. We were served by Jo-Ann who was just lovely – so friendly, so full of knowledge and genuinely passionate about Creation and their fabulous wines.

I have a confession – we were so enthralled by the food and the wine that I didn’t take notes of precise elements of the dishes and to be honest, it was the best thing I could have done – just enjoy the moment. I’ll leave some of it for your imagination and for the suspense when you go for a pairing.

Every single detail of our brunch was spot on. I honestly couldn’t fault it in the slightest. The only thing left on our minds was “when are we coming back for the secret pairing?”. There is a pairing to satisfy any palate – even an alcohol free one which is served with tea. Sounds really interesting,  but I love wine way too much! Thank you Creation and Jo-Ann. We will certainly be back!
